The Pocket Coach

Our Story

Throughout his coaching career, Greg Davis recognized that most people learn fastest by watching demonstrations. Since it is not convenient to bring a computer or video player onto the pool deck, he started looking for an easier way to show his athletes the proper techniques. He printed a series of photos illustrating the progression of the stroke, and stapled them together to show his swimmers. As the pages flipped, he saw the light bulbs flash in his swimmers’ eyes and started hearing “oh, now I see what you’re saying!”

Flippers utilize a teaching method called "whole-part-whole":

Whole - Flip through the book to animate the stroke;
Part - Turn to a specific page that pinpoints an area of interest;
Whole - Flip through the book once more to illustrate how that one part fits into the complete stroke.

That was the beginning of our journey to bring this fun and informative tool to swimmers across the nation. In one handy flip of the page, athletes can see above and below the surface exactly how Olympic gold medalists swim.

Learn from the Best.

Flip and Learn.
